Construction Management

These residential developments represent my transition from architectural design into construction management and project delivery. Working within Derome's production organisation, I have been involved in large-scale timber residential projects, supporting the successful execution of developments from design coordination through to on-site production.

My role combines technical knowledge, commercial awareness and day-to-day construction management to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.

Key Challenge

Large residential developments involve multiple stakeholders, complex technical interfaces and continuous design evolution during construction. The challenge is to maintain control over programme, cost and quality while resolving technical issues before they impact production or generate unnecessary rework.

My Contribution

• Coordinated technical issues between consultants, subcontractors and site management throughout the construction phase.

• Identified design discrepancies and proposed practical construction solutions before execution, reducing technical risks and avoiding costly rework.

• Supported procurement activities, subcontractor coordination and tender evaluations.

• Reviewed production invoices, monitored cost allocations and contributed to financial follow-up.

• Participated in production planning, short-term scheduling and progress monitoring.

• Assisted the Site Manager in communicating critical technical, commercial and programme-related issues.

• Contributed to site safety management and continuous improvement of construction processes.

Outcome 

My work has contributed to improving communication between design and construction teams, reducing construction risks through early technical intervention and supporting efficient project delivery. This experience has strengthened my ability to balance technical quality, programme certainty and commercial viability within complex residential developments.
